The reality in Iraq is that things are NOT getting better, they are getting worse. More violence, more kidnappings, less government control, stalled reconstruction, etc. It is doubtful that elections can proceed for fear of violence, and because not everyone will get access to polling places because of that security situation. There are entire cities where Americans will not go.

Anne Garrels ('Naked in Baghdad') was talking yesterday about the increasing danger to journalists and people who help Westerners. She was there before the war, during the war, and afterwards, and she believes that the danger is now at its highest, and getting worse. Many Iraqis that previously worked with Westerners are too scared for their lives to continue to do so.

Allawi is in a bunker. Can he actively campaign outside the Green Zone? I think not...
