Let's stretch it a bit: perhaps most people want the (911) story to be told the way it's been told to them!! I mean, as a rule of thumb, we shouldn't underestimate the average Joe's savvy... We should dismiss HL Mencken's sarcastic quip that "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the stupidity of the American people".
The Bible Belt is replete with hateful, Arab-bashing bumper-stickers, toilet papers, etc. There might be genuine concern among US elites about the reaction of US opinion if the whole truth were dropped on it like a bombshell --the decent segment of the American people would probably react accordingly... Yet, an even more ominous reaction might be expected from the "unreconstructed South": most people over there like it that way!! The angry-white-churchgoers don't give a damn about "what really happened on 911" --unless, of course, you entertain them about some sinister UN-big-gov-conspiracy theory. All those trailer-park rednecks just hate Arabs, sand n**gers, Islam, etc. They hate ever since 911 BUT they already hated BEFORE 911 and didn't wait for Bin Laden to pull off his lifetime exploit....
Somehow, that's the real, depressing dirty-little-secret Western elites are scrambling to conceal: beside a tiny minority of bleeding hearts, the bulk of West/US opinion is well aware of the deception on 911 but, at the same time, they don't care.
