M1, the webinar was conducted very professionally, and as such each of the sponsors, while noting their organization's contributions to the standards and philosophies concerning rollouts, etc., were discrete by not turning the event into a sales presentation by either of them. That was my take of the event.

The general takeaway was that EFM is beginning to percolate, and probably doing so a lot more in Asia Pacific and parts of Canada and Europe than in the states, and that well-positioned players should see gains even if only to remain consistent with the maxim that states that a rising tide lifts all ships.

One thing that stuck with me as a networking professional is the highly descriptive comparison that was used to show the differences between ATM-based alternatives and EFM, showing clearly how much simpler the end-to-end Ethernet model is - even when QoS and other TDM-like attributes, including OAM, are mapped to it - than conventional ATM over TDM such as we see being deployed in RBOC PONs, when transporting IP payloads to and from the residence/SOHO (and anywhere else for that matter, but it's commonly perceived, albeit incorrectly, that this is basically an alternative to DSL and HFC, so I mentioned residence), and the capex and opex savings that are achievable by choosing to deploy the latter.

Maybe if Troy is looking in he can add to this, but from my recollection not much was stated that was vendor specific. It was about the technology, in other words, and not about any one player's prospects.
