If they had bought up all the gold, silver, platinum and palladium production in the world, think of what would have happened to prices and production. The entire nation could stop working and just sell off a little of their holdings for the next hundred years. They would have the economic power to bankrupt many producers every now and then if overproduction threatened. Oh well. Just my Scrooge McDuck fantasies.
