I peeked at the websites you directed me to, El Polvo. From appearances, Cat Stevens is condemning the acts of Muslim terrorists. I remain skeptical. Everyone's personal website puts them in a favorable light and conceals that which they know will cast black light on them.
I acknowledge that poetry is inseparable from politics. Indeed, it is inseparable from quantum mechanics, the theories of relativity, the interactions of ecological communities, religion, love, joy, sadness, rage, reconciliation--in short, the totality of Heaven and Earth. However, I choose, and I hope that others do, to discuss poetry and not politics on the Poetry Corner. That's the way I keep peace with my loved ones with whom I disagree, and I hope with my intellectual friends on SI.
I do wish entertainers would refrain from dabbling outside their own field. It greatly diminishes my enjoyment of their art. They should let me read or hear their art and draw my own conclusions about the truth of it. I might have an entirely different ride on the Peace Train if I don't have people telling me what I'm riding in. |
