Tourism and Satellite Phones

Maurice, much of this discussion about Globalstar vs. Iridium has centered around the needs of business people. It seems to me that tourists would also love to have a satellite phone. I'd guess that most of these people would want the ability to initiate a call at any time, but could/would minimize battery consumption by leaving the phone off the rest of the time.

From what I can see so far, Globalstar would decisively win these customers based on price. I doubt they would care about the areas of the globe that are not covered. There may also be some promotional opportunities here that could tie in with the tourism industry, like 50% off on a handset when you buy a Carribean cruise, or trade in your frequent flier miles for a handset.

Your thoughts?
