Jack, most people are clueless about things like that. <CDMA multiplies the value of all those features by enabling fast and efficient data transmission. How the small royalties paid come back to Korea many times over as American companies like Verizon buy millions of Samsung and LG CDMA handsets. How Korean companies are seeing their profits soar as a result. >

They can't think past the end of their nose and how much they are paying for something. If it's not "free", it should be.

I think it's a good thing that the USA has military services to match the economic and intellectual services.

Most people, including a majority of Americans, see life as a zero-sum game where they have to get things away from other people. That's why socialism is endemic everywhere, including the USA, and outright totalitarianism, kleptocracy and autocratic regimes are still running much of the world where democratic socialism hasn't taken over.

The number of Libertarian states is exactly zero! There's nowhere even remotely close to free, though King George II rants and raves about freedom and the march of democracy and blah blah blah while steam-rolling freedom in a million ways.

Count the money spent by a state and compare it with the money spent by the citizens as a first approximation to freedom. Then, look at restrictive regulations and the number of victimless 'crimes' which don't necessarily involve government spending.

I suppose Korean companies might as well try to get royalty-free technology if they can. Maybe stamping their feet, whining and being belligerent is normal Korean behaviour when they don't get their way. People are like that as they pass through their two year old stage, before learning to live and let live and acting to mutual benefit in free and voluntary exchange of value in an honest and trustworthy relationship. There are plenty of countries and people like that.

We don't hear about Japanese companies, even D'oh!CoMo, whining about royalties and they haven't made the money from CDMA that Korean companies have.
