For starters, dump IE if you haven't already done so. I'd recommend Mozilla/Firefox or Opera. They don't allow active-x "helper" applications that are a conduit for spyware to piggyback onto IE and thus bypass your firewall notifications.

I ran ad-aware this AM after seeing the post about spyware -- nada, nothing, zippo. Of course, I'm using Mozilla... If you do find your spyware DLL or exe, you can see by it's date when you acquired it, which may help you narrow your search for where you got it.
