I talked to a couple of neighbors from Iran, and both say that there are a lot of people in Iran who want to have a closer relationship with the US. They are sick of the theocracy and its restrictions on life. Most Iranians are actually more 'westernized' (if that is an appropriate term) than a lot of other nations in the Middle East, it seems.

We should encourage this movement towards democracy and away from theocracy through the people, and not through overt or heavy handed means, IMHO.
