KT,
Just to give some balance to all the kudo replies you have received so far on this thread, I disagree with all your points, but for the sake of brevity, I will not mention all the disagreements, just a few.

Starting with number one, First, he misses the entire dynamic of The United Nations.... Dynamic of the UN?
I don't believe that is how the majority of Americans look at the UN, you have categorized yourself in that slot that Friedman wrote for you. I suppose we will find out Nov 2 how the majority of Americans feel about the dynamic of the UN and etc.

To the final points, East coast intellectuals are not the only ones who think that a super power that acts reasonably is a necessity to the rest of the world. I believe everyone thinks that except for foaming at the mouth neocons who want to fight small countries for fun.

So what would be a "reasonable" response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks? Fire a few cruise missiles at a factory somewhere??

Another point from the above quote ...I believe everyone thinks that...
WRONG! Not everyone thinks the way you do. No matter how much you think so, no matter how much you attach derogatory (foaming...neocons?)labels to any that disagree with the "entire dynamic of The (must we capitalize The?? kind of telling isn't it) United Nations", no matter how much you speak for the whole rest of the world in their understanding about the "excuses" of an "imperialist nation" and "clueless Americans", while ignoring, COMPLETELY ignoring, the fact that there are indeed allies, even (gasp) some European allies, fighting alongside the US in Iraq.

Is it possible that the (excuse me, The) United Nations Dynamic would strongly approve of the Spanish response of caving in to a terrorist bombing??

OK, I've added balance by posting a dissenting opinion and have therefore proved that not everyone thinks like you, in that at least I do not. Everyone does have a right to voice their opinions, so by my post I intend no offense and nothing personal to you. I do not usually engage in political debate or posts of any kind, this one post is the exception that proves that rule. In other words, there will be no replies to any replies to this post, besides my vote on Nov 2.

If the tally come Nov 3 is 1:50,000,000 or so in favor of JK, I will concede all your points and bow down to the Dynamic of The United (and Very Reasonable) Nations.

NOT!
