We know the election will barely even qualify as a democratic process because of all the obstacles of even engaging the event. Rumsfeld spoke candidly before congress about this very recently.

Did King Abdulla mention that if elections are held the results will likely change the political scene in favor of the Shi'ite voters. Abdulla's backing as King is from a huge Sunni constituancy. This has given him leverage, as it did his father, in the global theater to maintain a powerful stature in the region. He has historically provided a back door for Palestinian radicals when things were too hot in their neck of the woods. And, he has been an allie for peaceful negotiations between Israel and Palestine. His family have supported the right of Israel to exist... sort of.

Under Saddam the majority of power in Iraq was under Sunni authority. This bode well for Abdulla. His concerns may be valid but it would be nice if he would come clean about how the results may effect his kingdom. I suspect the Ayatolla in Iran, views things very differently.
