Since Iraqi has not published year by year figures on Saddams' dead, I gave you an estimate for 2002 based on available figures. It was you who went off onto the tangent of how his earlier killing somehow didn't really count, 'cause he was 'our guy'.

The long and the short of it is, Saddam killed many thousands all through his reign, as part of his policy of maintaining a climate of fear (cf. Kenan Makiya Republic of Fear). His surviving officers are still paying for dead Iraqis, and they have joined forces with AQ, criminals, and various Sunni factions to make up the "insurgency", which is still specializing in dead Iraqis; dead Americans being harder to come by and more expensive.
