Re JPEG security flaw.
Windows XP Service Pack 2, which is still being distributed to many customers' computers, is not vulnerable to the flaw.

I don't think this statement is true. I have SP2 installed; yesterday there was a security upgrade related to the JPG issue.

In addition, it seems that most of Office XP was replaced - a 53MB download followed by a reboot followed by 3 more Office related security fixes and another reboot.

I used to wait a few days to let others debug MSFT maintenance updates. I now keep my software as current as possible all the time.
