I think you're engaging in wishful thinking in re. to Kerry, to ease your discomfort.

We need to find a way to bring in help, and obviously that will not happen with Bush. Kerry has a better chance to make progress.

Are you kidding? Kerry is publicly reviling the allies we do have who are willing to put their troops on the line. Kerry talks about the need for additional help but he'd be a disaster in practice.

..focused on the perpetrators of 9/11

Would Kerry be willing to engage in the blunt talk of the "you're on our side or the terrorist's" type necessary to get and keep Pakistan and Saudi Arabia's government on our side of the terror war? I don't think so, and if he did, I don't think it would be believed. His history as a doubletalker and poseur is well-known. There are powerful forces within those countries and others which want them to either cooperate with the terror groups or look the other way. You need someone with a reputation for backing up his statements. Thanks to the Afghani and Iraqi invasions, Bush has that credibility. Look at how Gaddafi simply handed over his nuclear equipment when a shipment was caught by the PSI. Or look at how Charles Taylor went into exile when Bush told him he needed to, thus ending the violent conflict in that country.

Re. economic and other issues, there's no point in getting into details. But you should ask yourself if his positions are not simply campaign positions, with no commitment behind them.

Lastly, I'd suggest you think about how well Kerry has run his campaign so far. That's the only example of executive ability Kerry has displayed so far. I'm not impressed. Positively that is.
