David, I believe that AVE is developing a H5N1 vaccine (and CHIR is working on a H9N2 vaccine). My guess is that the vaccine has been made, but needs to be evaluated for safety, followed by efficay. I believe it is based on last season's isolate, and its effectiveness against next season's isolate is not know. The recent Vietnam sequence is virtually identical to teh sequence from last season, but a version that easily passes from human to human may be considerably different.

Current vaccine appraochs chase after the virus (while patterns of recombination can be used to predict future isolates).
