I have also had problems with Netflix with delayed shipping. On at least a dozen occasions in the last few months they get a movie back in the morning, say they will ship the next queue item that same day, on a weekday, and by end-of-day it still isn't shipped. Changed to "shipping tomorrow".
It sucks.
My theory is that either they are trying to reduce mailing costs, or are trying to put pressure on subscribers to upgrade to the 5 out at a time plan, to increase revenues. Or both. I watch a lot of movies and want one here every night!
P.S. Todays action as of an hour after the market opened is pretty encouraging. In the face of 2 bad news items (new coverage with a sell recommendation, and the snide comment by Starz about how Netflix will have to compete with pay-per-view rates to get approval to download movies) the stock is now up for the day. I have a sneaky suspicion that the earnings report will surprise on the upside.
Here is the Starz comment:
"We are the only subscription service permitted to offer these films through ... broadband," said Bob Green, senior vice president for advanced services at Starz (L: news, chart, profile), highlighting the fact his company owns the rights to thousands of hit movies, for years, after they have been available for rent in video stores.
If Netflix and TiVo do plan to distribute movies over broadband, virtually the only way for them to do so is to charge a fee, competing with pay-per-view and other video-on-demand services, the company indicated." |
