For those afraid of the draft - a new draft would encompass all teenagers above 18, will be a benefit for the US society. There is plenty to do for their country unrelated to military combat.

From improving US airport and sea port security, to firefighters, forestry, to nursing position in hospitals or elderly homes, to social work and rehab of inner cities (no to mention patrols and real help in dissaster areas like Florida those days).

IMHO a 18 to 24 month draft of all will also serve as a maturing experience for all ethnic groups, lower gang crime and make many more compassionate for their fellow citizen.

Many who now, did not acquire a profession, will do so in the framework of the draft, and lower unemployment or low pay in managerial jobs of “cleaners” or “burger flippers”

Unfortunate the draft is seen only as a way to enforce military combat, and few think about the positive effect on our society and state budgets if the draft would be mandatory and along the lines mentioned above.

Those that never served in the army will have difficulties to grasp benefits of what I am writing about
