I've noticed a cycle in Nigeria. Every few weeks there is an uprising, and every time the gov't and oil companies act in coercion to quell the uprising. It looks pretty random to me, except that the workers may be responding to the high oil prices they see.

I cannot imagine the leaders of Nigeria's oil workers unions being in the back pocket of the non-commercial traders (read hedge funds) trading NYMEX crude.
