I think what the problem is with the people using Netscape who are getting black on black is the Netscape setting itself. I'm using Netscape and am not getting black on black on any page. I think maybe those users have customized their colors.

Try looking in Netscape, Edit, Preferences, Appearance, Colors. Mine is set to Black text, grey (I think) background, and I've got "use Windows Colors" checked. Everything is very readable and looks good with those settings. There's also an option to "always use my colors, overriding document" .. I've left that box unticked.

Fiddling with the fonts doesn't help the large print on the main pages though, if you're also getting that.
