You just gave two good reasons for leaving the phone OFF! <g>

Now, could you look at the opposite end of your globe and tell me if you think the entire state of Alaska will be covered by Globalstar? As one who has been known to hobnob with the wild sheep in the Brooks Range, I was concerned by an earlier post suggesting that G* might not work north of the Arctic Circle.

I think Alaska would be a great market for satellite phones. Only 5-10% of the state's land area is currently covered by the wireless phone system. Residents and visitors alike are constantly getting into all sorts of dangerous scrapes. Recently over a dozen climbers fell off a mountain on the outskirts of town, and the rescue was initiated via cell phone. We have excellent statewide search and rescue resources here, but the lack of personal communications out in the bush often results in tragedy.
