Because there are chinese in these places and there was a news story that the chinese were contemplating using their vast power to influence events in these countries as pertains to oil. The reason oil is $50 is that chinese oil demand is up 60%+ in one year. In the past nationstates have used force based on contrived nationalistic reasons to secure commodities that they deemed necessary to their growth and/or survival. So you call in bull crap but you will also be the first one betraying the indonesians and malaysians if china were to turn aggressive by demonstating against US intervention of any type. "Go to the UN and get a coalition together" you will say unless of course Pres Kerry decides to intervene unilateraly. Then you will be for him until he fails and then you can lead the protests again and offer HOward Dean up as a primary opponent for Pres kerry. BTW what does this have to do with Taiwan issue? mike
