If there was no oil in Iraq we would not be there. China will inevitably use their military to exert claims of dubious quality over oil in the south China sea -- an issue that could trigger wars or at least extreme tensions. But there are no even half-joking claims that Malaysia is part of China, anymore than California is part of Japan because there are sushi restaurants.
