Clearly the questions in that poll did not allow for pollees to contemplate the scenario that actually arose - where the US/UK/Spain sponsored resolution was effectively voted down without a formal ballot. That is, in fact, what happened. As I explained yesterday, given the legal complications that Blair would have faced if a formal balloting of the security council actually rejected the resolution, the coalition was forced to settle for an informal, but very public, vote. I am confident, and the Gallup poll I provided you confirms, that the American people are not the nitpickers that you are.
