Japan's avg 2004 per capita income of $34,000 is 35x China's $960.

However, on a GDP basis since Japan is about 3 or 4x China's, Japan is heavily invested in the US.

That will change with the freeing of exchange rate controls for China's Yuan which depresses the number.

Based on per capita income, and for a pegged currency, it appears large to me.
