Sure, when the novices get interested it's time to check out.
There is another point to observe here. The tech boom had stocks tripling and quadrupling in a year. The trusts have done, say 20-50% in this last year, less taxes. That's beautiful in my eyes but it doesn't intoxicate people like the tech stocks did. So it will take more time for the cumulative effect to set in. Also since oil has doubled in price it's unlikely to do so again in a 1-2 year period. From here on, things look pleasant but gradual, not explosive.
Finally, one more point. I found that my investments in CNQ,STO and PEY.UN did significantly better than the regular trusts, high dividend paying as they are. (PEY.UN behaves like an ordinary oil company, not like a trust.) While the yield on a trust is very appealing, maybe it's time to get out right now and buy upstream oil companies with the dough. Finding new oil/gas may be more profitable than buying wells that somebody else has found.
Your opinions, chaps?
