Novellus To Experience 'Above-Average Growth'
10.01.04, 12:14 PM ET

J.P. Morgan raised its rating on Novellus Systems (nasdaq: NVLS - news - people ) to "overweight" from "neutral" and cut earnings estimates on the semiconductor-equipment company. "We expect large-cap leadership equipment companies/stocks to outperform the market for the next several quarters," J.P. Morgan said. "Further, as there is substantially more downturn-related financial risk to small caps, we think large caps can perform better than our universe average for the next several quarters." The research firm said Novellus has improved its research and development capabilities. "We [believe] this enhances Novellus' prospects for above-average growth over the next several cycles as it commercializes new products in previously un-served market segments," J.P. Morgan said. The research firm lowered its 2004 and 2005 earnings estimates to $1.15 and $1.34 per share, from $1.17 and $1.50, respectively. For 2006, it estimates earnings of $1.65 per share.
