If Taiwan was an autonomous state it would be sovereign -- but it is not an autonomous state. It is part of China with administrative latitude within China. Nobody recognizes Taiwan as an autonomous state because it is not one -- and Taiwan does not claim to be anything other than part of China. You are spinning your wheels -- there is only one China and Taiwan is part of it. There really is no controversy on that point. The controversy is on who administrative mechanisms will evolve inside of China.
