Most of the insurgents are sunni because they lost the control of the oil resources under Saddam. Some are foreign fighters and arabs. The Shiites who are fighting don't even represent a pin's head of the Shiites in the country. The Shia are about to receive the keys to the country, but Al Sadr has some mistaken belief that he can lead all the Shia and have control of the people and oil and he has brainwashed the pooor shia to provide him power. In reality 3000 Al Sadr followers does not equal control over the 15 million Shia in Iraq. Those 15 million are behind the US and Allawi.
