The "problem" is using a ~ten-year old browser. Technology advances a lot in 10 years. And there's nothing particularly "bleeding edge" on this site. It's fairly vanilla for technology within the last ~five years.

"It might be something SI wants to take another look at anyhow. A non member would not be able to get past it to view the site, which I'd tend to think would affect traffic and new memberships."

It'd affect traffic and memberships nearly "zero". 10-year old browsers account for <1% of user base and traffic. You can use a 10-year old browser, if you wish. But prepare yourself for the fact that sites, site designers, the rest of the world, the internet itself and even grandmothers in Nepal are all passing you by.
