Have seen seven out of ten! Not too shabby.
Das Boot probably is the best of the bunch, although I remember being a little freaked out by the Herzog...have to check that out again someday.
Been watching a little Star Wars, my Epiode 4-6 DVDs arrived from Amazon a week ago...
I have to say, my cheap projector will not pass the THX video test. A person will miss quite a lot of detail in dimly lit scenes. In fact, the factory/default setting for the Sharp PG-B10S will only display the first two of eight black shades in the brightness test. I don't even plan on fooling around with it to get another shade or two. I'm also happy to run the bulb in econo mode, which supposedly doubles the life of the bulb.
Happily (or not?) there are not that many great Sci-Fi movies...and I don't expect this to be a problem with a normally lit black and white movie (will report on Rita Hayworth in a few days).
Missing out on some of the details hidden in the darkness seems to be improving the George Lucas films. The less you see of the Rancor the better. I'm sure the very brightly lit THX-1138 will look great. Sometimes certain colors are a little oversaturated in Star Wars, though naturally the light sabers just look better.
off topic, heh, it is nice to see Lynx back up closer to where I got in last spring. I'm down $2k in Tgen, $4k in Lynx now, and, eek down $8k in Sickquenom. A lot better than a month or two ago however. |
