Count me as very perplexed with the Muslim world, and angry. One thousand years ago it held the high ground in poetry, libraries, books, art, mathematics, and other fields. Baghdad was the most civilized city on earth. Now it seems Islam is mired in a medieval swamp, making little progress beyond blaming infidels for its problems and attacking innocents in order to provoke conflict.

The voices of Muslims who disagree with radicalism and terrorism are lost in the wind, if they say anything at all. Islam must take responsibility for its own, disavow terrorism in a way that makes a real difference. It must stamp it out just as the Christian world stamped out slavery in its own midst.

You remember a few years back when American spent our lives and wealth defending Muslims in Kosovo against a "Christian" tyrant? Why are we not seeing anything like this in Islam? Even a meaningful protest against terrorism seems to be beyond possibility. We should see protests and marching in the streets against terrorism. Because Muslims are being hurt. They are being hurt in their heartland and they are being hurt in the hearts of people like me.

Islam has the potential to participate as one of three great religions on earth. For myself, I would like to live and let live. Making enemies of people like me, who life-long have been tolerant and accepting of others different from themselves, is NOT the way to go. It gives the impression that there is no hope for peace by peacable means. I don't like to think about the alternative.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
