I believe that Gerald Ford was the best President for the time that we could have had. The country had just snatched a loss from the jaws of victory thanks to Kerry, Fonda and friends. Hillary Rodham (Clinton) had just partaken is a successful partisan effort to bring down a sitting President.

Ford was unassuming and likable. The former football star was very athletic, but when Saturday Night Live portrayed him as bumbling, he had the unassuming self confidence to accept the humor, rather than proving it wrong.

At the time, he set a record for vetoes. (The next President, James Carter easily broke the veto record, even though he was a Democrat, and both housed\s of Congress were also Democrat controlled.) The Democrat controlled Congress assumed they could ram anything through Ford because of the circumstances surrounding his arriving in the office of the President.

Ford seemed to view his role as caretaker. He worked to restore trust and respect to the office which had been vacated by a man behind a criminal conspiracy which in the opinion of Hillary Rodham (Clinton) would not have resulted in his removal from office if had Nixon destroyed the tape recordings.

Betty Ford displayed decorum and poise unknown in the ranks of First Ladies for many terms. She later became famous for being alcoholism. At the time, she displayed class.

Gerald Ford should have never been President. Having landed in that role, he dispatched it with honor and integrity. At the time, a President who had tried to achieve more would have probably failed. Gerald Ford was a great President for the time.
