Elmer,

Good document (instructive for me at least).

However, I must be missing something. If I assume an average AMD die size as the same as the P4 (~130mm^2- I'm just doing a ball park estimate- they have AthlonXp's that are smaller, but also have Opteron's that are much larger), then that document only suggestes a net die yield of 124/wafer.

At 20K wafers/mo * 3 months/Q I only get about 7.4 million chips per quarter.

This is entirely in line with what AMD sells each quarter.

A few million here or there can easily be accounted for capacity being used for preventative maintainance, 90nm conversion, test wafers and differences from my average of 130mm^2 die size across all AMD products.

However, based on what you have been saying, I was truly expecting a capacity at least 2X to 3X the amount of chips AMD has been selling.

I must be missing something? But what?

TIA
