That's the nature of war. You can't win a war if you aren't willing to sacrifice troops. Sad but true. That's why you try to avoid war in the first place.

>>> As much as you won't like to hear this, the troops are pawns to be moved about by politicians and generals to satisfy their needs. <<<

No question there Webster. I'm on record here as stating that war is nothing more than the extension of politics by other means. Officers are taught that during their training.

As a former Marine during the Viet Nam war, I'm well aware of the political aspect of the military. The professional soldier doesn't see war as being glorious. They look at it as a job that someone has to have the courage to do. When their Commander In Chief says that they must go and protect American interests, the professional soldier doesn't question the politics. They know their mission is an extension of politics. They do what they were trained to do when the politicians allow them to do their jobs.

>>> The real protectors of freedom are those who uphold the Constitution and defend it from its enemies. The real enemy lies within, for no terrorist can abolish the Constitution, only Congress and the President. <<<

That may be true in theory and I won't dispute it. I think you are correct. However, theory is one thing, reality another. And reality states that as long as humans inhabit the earth, there will be wars. It's part of our makeup, all the way back to the beginning of biblical times.
