Let's all get real about this IBM rumor/BS. VK did the flip flop and is now singing from his position book. Dodson had a reasonable analysis. How about simply calling it like it is and moving on: TOTAL BS!!
Schmidt is making progress. Other than to say someones behind that may have been "caught" - ie. the entire MM community - you don't need to start stoking the BS ovens. In this day and age, all it takes is a well-timed/placed call (PC Week "Hello") and some pile on chatter and posts to get things going. It's been several months since Novell investors had wing-ding rumor hoo-haa which ended with a BANG at $13 on HUGE volume as it tried to pierce it three times over a long month. At that time the talk, chatter and high fives were there in spades, just as they are now. The picture is the same.
The only way out for those who have joined this party over the last few days is to "hope and pray" this half-baked, twice-denied rumor is for real. So, all eyes will be on Schmidt today. My guess is he will emphatically deny they are engaged in any discussions with IBM. Look at the way Schmidt handled last weeks earnings fiasco. The Street and all of Novell-dom didn't believe there was the sightest chance Schmidt would disappoint a second time. But, SURPRISE, he did and, not only that, he came out fighting. Same thing applies to IBM. After silence from Schmidt - it's not his job to comment so get real - he will come out fighting once again, by emphasizing his role as the man in charge. He just hired two very credible executives, is establishing an expanded influence and will soon tackle the BOD problem. With all of the inherent potential Novell has, you don't give Schmidt the reins and then sell out so quickly. This is absolute lunacy.
Novell will come back to earth. We've got more painfully long months ahead as they execute this turnaround.
I normally don't participate on this board, but the crap was getting so deep I thought I'd add my 2 cents.
Joe, as a man of reason, I'm surprised you let this BS pile so high. Answering back to Dwight as if something will happen is very misleading, given how events have evolved.
Good luck. |
