Canadian-Israeli group develops Angola's largest Diamond mine
HOUSTON, October 03 -- SouthernEra Resources Limited (Toronto, Canada) is gearing up to develop the Camafuca Kimberlite diamond mine in Angola called the Camafuca.
Camafuca, a resource valued at approximately $2.5 billion, is Angola's largest diamond mine and one of the world's largest known undeveloped diamond deposits.
Camafuca is located in the Lunda Norte Province of Angola. The Camafuca Kimberlite development plans call for a dredging operation with an annual mining rate of approximately 6.1 million cubic meters of rock to produce approximately 220,000 carats of diamonds.
Construction is scheduled to begin later this year and Camafuca is expected to begin production by mid2002.
The Camafuca diamond project is 34 percent owned by SouthernEra Resource, a diamond and platinum development company, 33 percent by Welox Ltd., a division of Israeli-owned Leviev group, (Leviev Group owns a 49 percent share in Asorp, Angola's sole diamond marketing syndicate) and the remainder by Angolan interests.
