Cap, If it takes 8 years, then I would grant them that much time, but they could speed it up if they passed on the work visa, and began work for citizenship from the git go. If they don't care enough to do that, then they can go back where they came from. Going through a work visa, and then a green card, before trying for citizenship, sounds like they are trying to make up their minds if they want to stay. If there is any doubt in their minds, they should just move on.
