OK, head to head with my dad tonight, over Scotch-and-soda. I say to him, "About the debate, about Iraq. I wish Bush would explain clearly that we did beat Saddam, we beat the Iraqi army, so we won that war, but now we're fighting against another enemy, Zawahiri and the Islamists."
And he shakes his head and says, "No, that's not it. These people are just killing each other over religion and there's nothing we can do about it. The Shias are killing the Sunnis and vice versa, and if they want to strap on a bomb and blow each other up, we can't stop them."
I dunno, I think he's right. But I can't think of a way for Bush to make that one of his messages. |
