I applaud them. I am disturbed by the trend of newspapers and other sources supplying archival material only on a fee basis. It discourages research by ordinary people. It's not necessary to double check everything you read, but sometimes you should find the whole story in detail just so that you can understand the limitations of public sources and interpretations.
