I like the idea of clean coal -- of course, coal isn't clean -- but maybe they can keep more of the bad stuff out of the air.

Gasification has a lot of terrible byproducts. When I was in regulation -- some utilities were still arguing that they ought to be able to recover in rates all the costs of cleaning up the mess left over when gas was made from coal -- by the LDCs -- I think they called it "manufactured" gas.
