Most reasonable persons would conclude that this was a contradiction of your statement, Bush stole the election from Al Gore. It also appears to contradict this statement of yours: The simple scenario of counting the votes showed Gore as the victor


Its not a contradiction. In a state of 17 million people, 537 votes is well within the margin of error and hardly a significant plurality. Given the level of vote miscounting in the state, it hardly qualifies as a Bush win.

However, the overall point I was making is that there were so many questions raised by the FLA vote, its no wonder that many of us feel cheated. While a lawsuit may have been inappropriate given the circumstances, there was certainly enough irregularities to warrant one.
