<EARPIECE during the debate>
Maybe not kind of 100%, during this lates debate.
However, as the audio-channels got messed up when he did the speech in europe, it was clear he used one then (plus clear he also dropped it once)
That is, this is how the system worked..
- while Bush repeats the last word somebody, ear-prompter, reads him the next sentence to speak. - Bush is silent for a while, tries to look at the public, smile,maybe even turning a page at the podium, etc, but looks somewhat strangly concentrated. - just as the ear-prompter ends the last word, Bush starts with the first word in this next sentence.
Seems like the "sign" can be estimated by measuring - the length of the sentences (must be fairly short) - the silent interval inbetween the (spoken) sentences, how well do they match the length of the ear-prompted sentences.
Anyway, another funny thing was how well the ear-prompter did all the needed intonations and how well Bush repeated them.

PS happened much more often, although often barely audible, before digital ear-pieces were developed. That is, sometimes the microphones just managed to pick up the ear-piece radio-channel (often depending on how the speaker turned his head,hold his hands, etc RF-stuff)
PPS These new ear-pieces are so small that one can easily drop them by mistake and then find it difficult to find them and re-install them, as happened to Bush this time.
PPPS to my knowledge, nothing of this was mentioned in those public 32 pages of the rules of debate |
