tejek, is it wiser to not give tax cuts (which have already jump started the economy) and thereby lose the election to a dangerous liberal? Would that not be placing the cart before the horse?

You are making an important assumption that the tax cuts have worked. I am not sure that the economy echoes that sentiment. Certainly, taking 3 years to recover makes me question whether its an appropriate use of our revenues.

Liberals are not slackers when it comes to spending.

That's true but since WW II the deficit as a %tage of the GDP has grown under GOP presidents and decreased under Dem presidents. The argument can be made that Congress ultimately determines the budget but the reality is the president is the engine that makes the budget happen. So its telling that Dem presidents have been more responsible fiscally.

Major difference would be a transfer of focus by them from national defense to feel good bureaucratic programs. Eventually Americans are entitled to a few goodies for their tax $s (such as healthcare for all citizens) BUT not this time. National defense must be the priority for next few yrs or Hamas & OBL will be balancing U.S. national budgets sometime in the future.

Well, some would argue that Bush has assured its priority by invading Iraq. People now are talking 10-15 years in Iraq.

And with Poland withdrawing next year, Iraq is turning into a deadly farce that we will have to manage increasingly unlone. I would suggest that that is proof Mr. Bush is unfit for command. In fact, I think this thread may need a name change. ;~)
