There were a number of "swiftvets" who where cremembers on or commanders of swiftboats in Kerry's unit. Hoffman would not have normally been on a boat with or near Kerry but the commanders reported to him and he would have had some feel for what was going on. But you didn't say "some of the swiftvets weren't there, you said " None of those guys were even there", and the context was not any specific incident but a discussion of their entire body of claims; "none of those guys where even there" would be true only if not of them were around to observe any of the disputed situations which is simply not true.
