Although not quite a matter of quoting out of context, I take your point, that something ludicrous is attributed without substantiation or any good way of defending against the charge. Perhaps the jibe could have been better constructed, or foregone.

On the "word police" question: I agree that one should freely use the term "quagmire" if it reflects one's view of the matter. I just think that too many people were too eager to view matters through that lens, and I imagine that is the basis of Nadine's jibe.

As for Cheney, I would say that as a grown man, it is licit, from time to time, to use salty language. Despite my habitual courtesy, there are real life circumstances when I have responded similarly to actions that I thought were despicable. It is certainly not something I am inclined to cluck over......
