The information I have read supports Tejek's assertion that Iraq was not a country before Britain needed a larger political entity to rule. Well, I don't know what you are refering to, but none of the countries in the Middle East existed prior to the end of World War 1. They were all part of the Ottoman empire during the war, and it was after the war when that empire ceased to exist that all the lines get drawn. Read "A Peace to End All Peace" by David Fromkin for the history. You may not know and appreciate the birthplace of civilized man. The land between the Tigress and the Euphrates is the place man may have first settled down. First place cultivated. First recorded writing. Ok. So? Most of us are discussing the current situation.
