We have prevented the restart of programs in the face of eroding sanctions. It was never a question of stockpiles, primarily, but of amounts serviceable for delivery to terrorists. The inspection team has confirmed that threat, essentially.
We have had the closing of Libya's programs, doubtless accelerated, and possibly caused, by the way we dealt with Saddam.
I do not recall the discussion of the topic of securing Russian nuclear material, but I will take your word that it occurred. I am sure, however, that the most I said was that I didn't know enough about it to substitute my judgment for the Administration's.
I do know that we have thwarted multiple plots, both in Europe and here, against US targets, and that a lot of terrorists who might be heading West are staying in Iraq to be shot. Yes, there was a spike in incidents, overall, but nothing like what I anticipated as a matter of common sense, since this is precisely the time to lash out in desperation. Overall, I have been very impressed with the lack of incidents directed at US targets, and the relatively petty spike overall. In Iraq itself, the pettiness of the harassment by terrorists, under the circumstances, has been laughable.
As far as I can tell, we have done very well. |
