How about you continue to repeat the mantra of "we're safer when we're nicer" and we'll call it even then. I would imagine that if we would have attacked Afghan. before 9/11, preventing the attack, you would be voicing the same criticisms. You were probably one of the people that was indignant that Israel took out the nuke. facility in Iraq, too. However, in the second instance, and in any preemptive action, the good that occurs (or lack of bad) is never appreciated because people have no idea what was avoided. By the way, my arguments have nothing to do with patriotism. What exectly is the price we may pay?
