<<Surviving on Social Security alone usually entails a diet of tinned cat food.>>

Hmmm, someone needs to start a thread for tasty cat food recipes for retirees in the 2010's and beyond. Here's my first contribution:

Cat food au gratin ca. 2020

1 can generic cat food
1/4 lb grated cheese (government issue preferred!)
1/4 cup fortified wine
2 tbsp Fat cat fat

Heat cat fat in an 8" skillet (or an inverted garbage can lid, if needed). Add cat food and sautee for 10 minutes, till tender. Move to serving platter, paper plate or in a pinch, torn piece of a cardboard box. Deglaze pan with wine, don't forget to scoop up all the brown bits! Reduce sauce as far as the buying power of the dollar, and add to cat food. Grate cheese over dish using grater (or a discarded piece of window screen), garnish with seeds of despair, and serve. Outstanding with a side dish of crow and followed by Humble Pie for desert! Feeds millions of paupers....ERRRR, RETIREES to be......
