If you have had graduate school exposier in the last couple of decades you should not find his claim to be too hard to fathom.

The students who populate programs in counseling and social services are often there because the program meets some of their own theraputic needs. I knew some counseling students when I was young who were definitely not within a standard deviation of the norm.

Graduate schools are full of people who would never survive in a sane world of cooperating rational adults. Some people continue in graduate school simply because they would have no place else to go after their undergrad program.

You can hang around a campus and be as weird as you want ... its encouraged. He qualified his claim by adding that he had never built a practice. I wouldn't automatically label it a lie. I am careful about such things.
